One of the major differences between hostel life and home life is the food. While nothing will ever compare to our loved “ghar ka khana” we at Shivneri boarding school work our best to provide our students with nutritious, hygienic and tasty food. Our mess menu is designed and changed fortnightly. The average meal includes pickle, papad, salad, roti, sabji, curry, dal, rice and something sweet. It’s mandatory for students to eat all vegetables. Our kitchen mess is well equipped and is washed after every meal. All the staff working in the kitchen take the utmost care and give priority to the cleanliness and hygiene of the dining and kitchen premises.

Another major difference between hostel life and home life is the freedom or the joy of living an independent life. At home, parents try their best to remove any and all obstacles children may face whereas in a hostel, even though you have aayas and teachers students have the freedom to learn and take decisions of their own. At home, parents usually keep asking their kids to finish their homework whereas when studying in a boarding school, students are allotted a specific time during the night to finish up their homework along with their friends and or study. In a hostel, many students almost of the same age live together who are studying almost in the same class or year. Thus, students of same nature develop great intimacy among themselves while they get their freedom and develop a sense of self-responsibility. Studying and living together develop a great sense of oneness among them and grows a spirit of co-operation and fellow-feeling among them. They help one another in case of need. Apart from general basic rules which every student must adhere to at Shivneri boarding school, students have the freedom to decide how to spend their free and available time. Students are also taught some basic life skills such as managing their own finances, banking, cooking, and gardening. Learning these life skills at a young age is very helpful for students in the outside world.

We have also tied up with the Japanese government and arrange for student exchange programs. Apart from that Shivneri boarding school is home to the official Ted-ED Club which hosts sessions for students who are passionate about making a change and sharing great ideas with the world. We also have MUN or the Model United Nations Club which gives our students hands-on experiences of simulating the proceedings of the UNO, through discussion and deliberation. Students learn the Rules of Procedure in a practical way and engage with issues of global concern. Mock MUNs also prepare them to tackle MUNs at the school level. With opportunities like these, boarding schools are perfect for students to gain experience and knowledge for kids.

Since students in a boarding school live and study together, they become very close. They are more open and accepting as they live with kids from different backgrounds from a very young age. There is a sense of oneness, and they believe in helping each other as family members and as friends. Students can study together in groups, eat their meals together, and join clubs together.
